Sutter Nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit/Vote on Confirmation.
senate Roll Call 135     Apr 29, 2003
Progressive Position:
Nay
Progressive Result:
Loss

The subject of this vote was Senate confirmation of Jeffrey Sutton to be a judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Progressives voted against Sutton's confirmation because of the nominee's previous legal work challenging the Americans with Disabilities Act. While arguing a case before the U.S. Supreme Court, for instance, Sutton declared it unconstitutional for disabled state employees to sue their employers; a right granted to disabled workers in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Republicans voted unanimously in support of Sutter and the nominee was confirmed on a 52-41 vote.
